When former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was not signed to any teams this past NFL offseason, people were quick to say that he was blackballed due to the fact that
Never mind the fact that opted out of his $19 million per year contract with the 49ers and, while unconfirmed, may have turned down several other contracts because he didn’t want backup money. Oh, and let’s not forget that in 11 starts last season, he led the 49ers to a grand total of one win.
That one win was a 22-21 win over the Rams. In the team’s first game against the Rams, their only other victory of the season, they won by a score of 28-0 with Blaine Gabbert at quarterback.
But let’s assume these things actually had nothing to do with it, even though they clearly did.
People who claimed Kaepernick was being blackballed for his beliefs were clearly wrong. If that were the case, all of the national anthem protesters would be out of work, yet the overwhelming majority of them still have jobs as NFL players.
Yet despite the fact that people were clearly wrong about that, the same people still expect to be taken seriously in the midst of an even larger issue in which more NFL players than ever are currently protesting the national anthem.
