After replacing Houston Texans’ quarterback Brock Osweiler during Sunday’s game, a game in which Osweiler threw back-to-back interceptions, quarterback Tom Savage has been named the starting quarterback against the Cincinnati Bengals this Saturday by head coach Bill O’Brien on Monday.
Savage was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft. His NFL debut was in December of 2014 against the Indianapolis Colts because now New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had a broken leg. In the 2015 season, Savage was placed on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. During the offseason, the Texans signed Osweiler to a massive four-year, $72 million contract, and Savage was the backup.
The Texans were losing by a score of 13-0 during the second quarter and Savage fought until the end, completing 23 of 36 passes for 260 yards, winning against the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 21-20. Osweiler will be the backup for Savage in Saturday’s game against the Bengals, but as of now, his future is still unclear.
