Conor Gillaspie is a familiar face to fans of the Chicago White Sox. He played 3rd base with the club from 2013 to 2015. Once he left, it was not thought much of by fans or analysts alike, but now with the San Francisco Giants, he is turning lots of heads this October.

In two seasons with the White Sox, Gillaspie posted a .265 batting average, 231 hits, and 20 home runs. He was traded to the Los Angeles Angels on July 24th, 2015.

Gillaspie made a return to San Francisco this year after being drafted by the team with the  37th overall pick in the 2008 draft, and he was looking to prove his worth to all of the other teams who have sent him off since then.

The Gillaspie heroics started in the NL Wild Card game against the New York Mets. In a scoreless 9th inning with one out and two men on base, Gillaspie took Mets’ closer Jeurys Familia deep for the eventual game winning 3-run home run. The Giants, off that swing of the bat, moved on to the NLDS to take on the Chicago Cubs where once again Gillaspie showed postseason heroics.

Last night, the Cubs held a 3-2 lead in the 8th inning. With two men on, Gillaspie dug in to face off with the hard throwing Aroldis Chapman. After fouling off a 100 mile per hour fastball, Gillaspie took the next pitch deep. It led to a 2-run triple that gave the Giants a 4-3 lead. This wouldn’t be enough, however, and the Giants would need extra innings to win.

The Giants are a team on a mission, and Gillaspie has a lot to prove as they attempt to keep their season alive tonight against the Cubs.
