What To Watch For in Bears’ First Preseason Game

Tonight, the Chicago Bears will take the playing field for the first time this season in preseason. The starters won’t get to see a lot of action but there are still things to watch.

Ted Larson: Ted has a lot of experience in the NFL. Now he will look to make an impact for the offensive line, replacing injured center Hroniss Grasu. During camp, he and starting quarterback Jay Cutler took plenty of snaps, with only a few that weren’t clean. In a game environment, it will be interesting to see how the line communicates and to see how comfortable the group is with a new guy in the middle.

Daniel Bravermen The Bears’ 7th round pick out of Western Michigan has turned a lot of heads. In camp, he picked things up quickly and was able to run good routes. He can catch the football and is a play maker, and that is proven by his time playing MAC football in college. Also, he can return kicks and punts, which gives him a good chance of making the 53-man roster. Tonight, we will see him run against another NFL defense in live play.

Bears’ 1st Round picks’ debuts: Wide receiver Kevin White, who was injured last season, will take the field for the first time since being drafted by the Bears in 2015, and this year’s 1st round pick, linebacker Leonard Floyd, will do the same. Floyd has speed and quickness, and it will be interesting to see if he can make plays on a NFL offensive line. Size and strength are a question, but maybe he can answer them tonight.

Veterans on Defense: They won’t get a lot of playing time, but the debuts of linebackers Jerrell Freemen and Danny Trevathan have been long-awaited for by fans of a franchise that is known for mean linebackers. Also, Akiem Hicks added to the defensive line will help Eddie Goldman out. The depth and experience on the Chicago Bears’ defense makes them one of the most underrated units in the NFL.
The Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos will kickoff at 8 PM ET on FOX Chicago.
