The Chicago White Sox lost game 1 of 3 against the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 7-5 on Friday. After a blown review and close calls throughout, the White Sox had momentum heading into game 2 last night, and their bats were alive.

As I sat in the upper deck of US Cellular Field for the game tonight, a few things stood out. One was the energy the crowd was bringing. It seemed like the fans were really involved. Also, the White Sox bullpen preformed much better. Jacob Turner came on after 6 innings in relief for the White Sox starter Carlos Rodon. After Rodon gave up 2 runs, Turner faced two batters without allowing a hit. Nate Jones stepped in to finish the 7th inning and took care of business in the 8th inning, allowing no runs or hits. Then, closer David Robertson entered the game in the 9th. He walked Orioles’ pinch hitter Pedro Alvarez. After Alvarez was thrown out on a fielders’ choice, Adam Jones hit into the game-ending double play, giving the White Sox the win.

On offense, the bats were alive for the White Sox. They posted 10 hits in the game and 4 runs. White Sox 2nd baseman Tyler Saladino hit a home run in the 3rd inning off of Orioles’ pitcher Chris Tillman, giving the White Sox a 2-0 lead. In the 8th inning, outfielder Adam Eaton went deep as well, giving the White Sox the 4-2 to lead that ended up being the final score. All batters in the White Sox lineup made base at least one time. The offensive turnaround was seen late in the game two nights ago, and it certainly carried over into tonight.

With last night’s win, the White Sox are now 53-57 this season. Nate Jones got the win, improving his record to 5-2, and David Robertson picked up save number 27. Orioles’ starter Chris Tillman was the losing pitcher, dropping his record to 14-4.

The White Sox will wrap up this series with the Orioles today, and then will travel to Kansas City and then Miami and Cleveland for 3 games a piece with the Royals, Marlins and Indians, respectively. They will return to Chicago on August 19th for a series against the Oakland Athletics.
