Browns Shopping Pick No. 2

The Cleveland Browns are reportedly shopping the second overall pick in the NFL draft. They have received offers from “many teams”, especially ones in need of a quarterback.

They weren’t originally planning on trading the pick, but still are going to listen to offers for it.

Since the Rams traded for the first pick and will likely take either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff, any team that now needs a top caliber QB would have to get the 2nd pick.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the most logical team to trade up to 2nd is the Eagles. They currently have the 8th pick and with Sam Bradford starting, there is always room for improvement. The only problem is that Philly doesn’t have a second round pick to add value. (Ironically, they traded that pick to LA for Sam Bradford, who then traded it to Tennessee in the mega-deal for the first overall pick.) If they still get the 2nd for the 8th and a 2nd rounder, they won’t pick again for 75 picks, until pick 14 in the third round, where they pick 77th, and then 79th.

My guess is that Cleveland will keep the pick. They will draft whatever QB isn’t taken among Goff and Wentz. They did sign Robert Griffin from Washington earlier in the offseason, but a) he is very injury prone and b) he isn’t as good as he used to be, so I think they should draft a backup, just in case they need to start him over RG3 or fill in in case of injury. Both Wentz and Goff would be better than current backup Josh McCown in my opinion. If they do trade the pick, I expect nothing less than the requirements of the Rams-Titans trade; multiple draft picks and maybe a player too.
