Yankees-Tigers Recap

Led by 2 home runs by Carlos Beltran and a decent outing by CC Sabathia, the Yankees beat the Tigers 8-4.  All 8 of New York’s runs came in the first 5 innings, and Sabathia was able to make good on that solid run support.  Through his 6 innings, he only struck 3 batters out, yet only allowed 4 hits.

Sabathia’s start gives Yankee fans hope, proving that Sabathia may still have some quality pitching left in him.  Normally a ground ball pitcher, he forced 8 groundouts and 7 fly outs today.  If Sabathia does make a strong comeback, he will not be the same utterly dominant pitcher he was 2 years ago.

One big reason for the Yankees’ victory was the fact that they managed to shut down Miguel Cabrera (0-3, 1 walk).  Yesterday, when the Yankees lost 4-0, Cabrera was 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBI.  While it does not take a genius to figure out Cabrera is the key to the Tigers’ offense, limiting his impact at the plate is a problem teams across the MLB struggle with.

The rubber match between these two teams will be played tomorrow at 8:10.  Both teams’ aces, Masahiro Tanaka and Justin Verlander, will be on display.
