Former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith was shot multiple times and killed last night on April 9, 2016. The incident occurred after an exchange of words between him/his wife and the driver of a “Hummer H2” (priced appr. $20,000) rear ended and partially totaled Smith’s “Mercedes G63 SUV” (priced appr. $140,000) which caused Smith to hit another car while driving in New Orleans Lower Garden District.

Smith was then shot multiple times and was pronounced dead on the scene. His wife Racquel was also shot by the Hummer driver twice in the leg and was rushed to the hospital.

Also, ex-Saints running back Pierre Thomas was on the scene shortly after the incident happened and reportedly had “been out with Smith and his wife” that night.

In football, Smith was drafted by the Saints with the 18th overall pick in the first round in 2004 out of Ohio State. He played all nine of his seasons with the Saints. He last played in 2012. He also spent 3 months on the New England Patriots practice squad until he was released in August 2014.  He was a Pro Bowler in 2006 and has the fourth most sacks in Saints history with 67.5 in his career. He had a career-high 13 during the Saints’ 2009 Super Bowl season. His season highs were 48 tackles (2005), 6 forced fumbles (2004), and 3 fumble recoveries (2007)

This situation is truly tragic and the thoughts and prayers of the NFL, us at SportsPressBox, and the fans all around the country go out to Smith and his family.
